This 3 hour workshop is available to TRIA students to support with challenges of academic writing.

It will cover

*How to structure an academic-style essay, from the macro to the micro level.

*How to connect your ideas, and support them at the same time.

*How to use APA 7, both for your in-text citations and your reference list.

*What are the specific characteristics of a reflective essay?

and all the basics on how to write a clear and cogent academic piece of work.

The presenter will be Jen Craig

Jen Craig (PhD, M.A. (Writing), Grad. Dip. Adult Ed. (TESOL), B.A. (Hons), Cert. IV Assessment and Workplace Training, Advanced Clinical Training in Contemporary Gestalt Therapy) has more than three decades of experience teaching adults at tertiary institutions, including TAFENSW and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), in the fields of ESL language acquisition, language teaching and creative writing. She has worked as a research assistant, published peer-reviewed academic journal articles, holds a PhD in trauma and writing, and since 2017 has been teaching on the Certificate IV English for Academic Purposes course at TAFE, which readies students for academic study at universities and other tertiary institutions, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has a strong commitment to supporting students’ capacities to express their own ideas, while also helping them to find the necessary academic support for those ideas.

In addition to her background in education, Jen is a Gestalt Therapist and sees clients both privately and at the community clinic at TRIA. She is also a published author of creative fiction (short stories and novels).
